On July 12, 157, a team of explorers was mapping the caves of Vaix, where the capital of Sol is located, and they wandered too deep, and it was pitched darkness. The group of explorers were veterans, having explored most caves of Solarius, but had lost some members in those searches. The caves they explored weren't mapped out, so it was their job to do so. The leader of the expedition, Oliver Neonius, was a noble of the house of Neonius. It was the pitched blackness that they lit a torch, looking at the cave walls. Nothing of note was of the cave walls, except for some jagged rocks that some of the explorers got caught on. There was gravel on the floor, and nobody wanted to cross it and some even suggested to go back to camp. However, Oliver volunteered to walk on the gravel floor. It was only a few steps, until the floor crumbled under Oliver, letting him fall to 10 feet, on a smooth ledge, outlooking an underground ravine. Neonius lost his torch, so he asked his aid, Jones Devlop, to pass down a torch. However, while waiting for the torch, Oliver could see blue light near him. It was moving to.
"These blue lights were moving sporadically, like dust in the wind. It reminded me of spirits, their balls of light, and I wondered if I had come across a ghost cave. But as I looked closer, I could see two smaller balls of light. It wasn't until I grabbed the torch and lit it, did I see bats. These animals were producing light in the dark. Their bodies were their torches. I asked for my aid to help me grab one of these to give to the King. We had used a net, and when one of the creatures flew near us, you tossed the net onto them and pulled them up to us. That creature was feisty, and almost escaped too." An excerpt from the book The Cave Adventurers of Oliver Neonius.
When the group of Explorers arrived at the mouth of the cave and finally saw sunlight, they rushed up and got on their horses that were at the entrance. They arrived at the Capital only a few hours later. They presented the bat to King Rais II, who was very fascinated with the creature and named the bat in honor of Oliver, calling it the Neon Bat.
