Nobility and Carmine

Nobility is a much-desired quality to have. Nobility is a resource of potency and potential. The more of it one possesses, the more energy can be channeled to achieve goals, and the more the world will open its doors. Social, governmental, and natural laws can be bypassed much more easily. And no matter one’s condition, one always looks elegant and beautiful. Intrinsic nobility is in one’s being, one is born with it. One gains extrinsic nobility by being in servitude of an individual with even greater nobility. A peasant is suddenly of much higher status when employed by a duchess.

This was how the Chromafey faction of the Gild Coronal League had formed. It was a hierarchical system of nobility, with the Keter on its peak. It is a system supposed to empower and protect the nobility. Its members strive for ever more wealth and status. The Gild Coronal League is the second most influential faction in the Court of Indefinite Color, right behind the Rainbow College, who has the goal of making the world ever more colorful. There is significant overlap between the factions, with many individuals being part of both.

Yesterday evening the doors to a magnificent theater had been sealed, and the building set ablaze. Hundreds of Chromafey were consumed by the inferno, under them the high-ranking Gild Coronalian of the name Sivindiarliss. The Detective leading the investigating blamed the deed on the anti-nobility terrorist group Carmine Corrosion, specifically targeting Sivindiarliss. She based this accusation on the fact that the smoke from the burning theater formed the phrase: “This act of terrorism was brought to you by the Carmine Corrosion, contact us to take out your gilded trash in spectacular ways”.

The Shatterheavens were floating above the rest of the Chromafey Wilds of Indefinite Color, where the high society looked down on the peasantry below. The Carmine Corrosion had stated its goal of bringing it all crashing down. The head of the ideological movement was an unidentified individual who called themself Monsieur le Guillotine.

To deal with the growing threat the Gild Coronal League paid associations, houses, and families who were offering services as police or mercenaries to protect from and hunt down the Carmine Corrosion. Hotspots of the movement all over Indefinite Color were turned into locations of violent spectacle.

Imaginary Problems

Flirr was very annoyed. She had spent the last few months carefully designing the architecture of the new city plan with the to-be constructed Arena of Violet Spectacles, even working thoroughly in her sleep through lucid dreaming. She had finally been ready to present the finished plan to the rest of the Court of Indefinite Color. But first she had to beat down the literal tree-hugging naturalist who wanted the region to become a conservatory for endangered plagues where one can house all the poor folk to be hosts. And now there was an ongoing discussion about letting the Imaginary Court led by Imaginary Duke of Phan take part in the Court of Indefinite Color. One had to put with up a lot of nonsense in Indefinite Color. But giving political participation to the non-real caused Flirr to scream at everyone for an hour until all went home.

Flirr went to bed a little more calmed down. At least she would have one more night to perfect her mental blueprints. So when she entered the world of dreams again, she also entered the soon-to-be constructed city in her imagination. But halfway through the night her quiet tinkering got interrupted by explosions in the imaginary streets. Buildings were set on fire, walls were torn down with imaginary machinery, and bridges were cut to fall into the unobservable regions of fantasy space. A number of courtiers of the Imaginary Court had invaded her fantasy and were breaking what they could. Flirr regretted not having invented a strong and unnecessarily violent police force yet.

The next day several of the Color Courtiers reported having been harassed in their daydreams. Only Lezial, a known sadist, reported, somewhat disappointed, her fantasy having been completely avoided. After all that discord the Color Court decided to let the Imaginary Court take part in the proceedings. Because the Imaginary Courtiers could not leave the fantasy space, the Imaginary Duke of Phan invited the Color Courtiers into the Peacock Palace. They would just need to imagine themselves standing in front of the gates and he would let them in. The benefit of the new meeting place was that one needn’t leaving your bed, as the nicknamed “Courtier of Laziness” commented.

There was still some leftover friction however. The Gild Coronal League, hierarchy of nobility, accused the Imaginary Duke of Phan of sympathizing with terrorists. Rumors had it, he occasionally had teatime with the head of the anti-nobility terrorist movement Carmine Corrosion, Monsieur le Guillotine. After having executed a whole array of self-proclaimed Monsieurs les Guillotines, there was a growing suspicion he was just a fictional character created by the movement, existing in fantasy space. A few days after the accusation an envelope delivered to a Gild Coronalian exploded, forming the phrase “Is this real enough for you?”, signed by Monsieur le Guillotine.
