Today is Ostrov's first and proudest newspaper. We started in 1389, just twenty-eight years after the First Unknown arrived, when allies within the North Island nationalist movement came together to agree that any new charter should be scrutinised appropriately by those people who would serve under it. Were it not for the efforts of Today, it is unlikely that the eventual Charter of 1390 would have gone so far to protect the rights of all Ostrovians - rights without which no man cannot call himself an Ostrovian.
It is no accident that, since then, Today has broken almost every major story in the history of Ostrov - the Lurynian word for "island," named by the Charter owners in recognition of their place in the world. The Lucy Atherton bribery scandal, the national healthcare initiative, the Justice reforms of the 1520s, the constant reinventions of foreign policy: we got there first. We employ some of the best reporters in Sparkalia, and we will get there again. And we have done, and will do, all of that while showing neither fear nor favour to any party or power, except the Ostrovian people.
For almost 225 years, Today has been Ostrov's most trusted source of information. Almost every household in the country puts down their two spareks for a copy every single day. We are committed to reporting on developments in the most timely, important and accurate way, in the Common and Lurynian languages, and in the interest of every Ostrovian.
