At the same time, the Federation's Destroyer, the USS Lynx were preparing to test their new Mark 48 Torpedo, as the USS Bronze pulls the Target into place. A old Freedom Class Destroyer, the predecessor of the modern Constitution Class, of which the Lynx is part of. On the bridge of the Lynx, the C/O of the vessel, Matthew Connery were peering through his binocular at the target, he said: "To think we started to use our Reserve fleet as targets..."
"What do you expect? We ran out of older ships. Plus, we gotta test the Mark 48's guidance and identification system." - The X/O answered.
As the two commander of the vessel discuss the reason behind using one of the reserve fleet's vessel as targets, the Comms officer spoke up: "Captain. The targets are in place."
"Understood, Lieutenant." - The C/O, Connery said.
As the Bronze detach the cables that was towing the old ship. It quickly sailed out of the firing line. In-between the target and the Lynx is a fishing boat. This is to test if the Mark 48 is tuned to detonate at specific frequency, preventing any possible incident of blowing up civilian vessels. Since most ships has different acoustic and magnetic frequency, not to mention. the Difference in speed also play a factor. In general sense, in order to test the Mark 48's efficiency at it's targeting, the Federal Navy entrusted the newest generation of torpedoes to be used at the Freedom Class. A vessel that possess much of the Constitution's machinery such as it's engine, propeller and gas turbine. The stake were high, as the Bronze was ordered to remain nearby, to see if the torpedo decided to steer over at the Bronze instead of it intended target. Knowing this information, the X/O asked: "What if the torpedo decided to blow up the Bronze instead?"
"Well, we'd be damned." - Connery answered.
Picking up the binocular as well, the X/O joined the Captain in observing the target, the Bronze and the fishing boat...
Meanwhile, in the CiC. The Weapons Officer were finalising the last check up on the torpedo system, tuning it's acoustic homing system to a specific frequency, as well running several checkpoints on the IFF system, which currently displaying the Bronze as the friendly vessel, the fishing boat as unidentified vessel and the Bain as the hostile vessel. Meanwhile, the sonar operator were monitoring the targets, he got the target information locked on, including it's trajectory, speed and sonar signature. With their eye-peeled to their console. Awaiting their order. And so, the intercomms roared: "Fire at will!"
Thus, the torpedo tube launched two Mark 48 torpedoes, guided by acoustic homing were delivered toward at it intended target.
