The Curse and Blessing of Knowledge
Before the work on the Warm Hearts Lanterns began, Governor Solomonov Arseni Rodionovich had to spend a few days in his home, isolated in his modest yet functional office. The mailman delivered the necessary documents for him to read, sign, and send back to the Temporary National Government. Though this process was not the most efficient, it allowed the government to move forward slowly but steadily. Solomonov needed to process the vast amount of information pouring into his mind. He found solace in silence and alcohol—vodka and beer, which soothed his throat and mind. He drew and sketched the so-called "Fountains of Warm Hearts," intended to provide warmth.
A week of isolation was enough for the Governor to return to social life. Although he had not fully recovered from the shock, the nation needed its leader, its reformer. Political enemies also awaited his return to ask uncomfortable questions about his absence during the National Duma sessions, which were to discuss a new, magic-infused invention aimed at reducing the cost of heating with wood. He took his seat at the head of the National Duma, composed of randomly selected citizens of New Kalestyanov.
A Warm Discussion in the Light of New Information
The National Duma commenced its fifth session, where various ministries presented their reports concerning railway infrastructure, the expansion of Kalestinskaya Gorodovaya in the housing and entrepreneurship sectors. Then the Duma moved to questions and answers, with most questions directed at the Honorable Governor.
"Dear Governor, what was the reason for your partial absence? Governor, could you reveal the inspiration behind the 'Fountain of Warm Hearts'? Governor, we have reports of spirits in homes demanding food and gifts. What is your opinion?"
These and similar questions echoed through the National Duma, causing the Governor's headache to worsen from the sudden cacophony of voices. He took a deep breath and mentally prepared a smooth, well-chosen response for the citizens, knowing that his words would spread throughout the nation.
"National Duma, the source of the attack on our hard-working loggers was magical. In the wilderness lives the Butterfly Witch, who wanted to attract my attention. With pride and caution, I stood at the door of her hut. We met face to face, and she surprised my mind with her magic. She said she would give me the knowledge to ensure our people's survival in these cold, harsh conditions through a potion. For the sake of our nation and your families, I drank it. The potion overwhelmed my mind—I received more than the Witch promised. Dangerous beings lurk in the shadows, but their gifts will ensure our civilization's survival and development on these lands. There will be many challenges, but I tell you—New Kalestyanov will never fall!"
He concluded his speech with a strong bang on his desk, which pleased the representatives of the National Duma, ready to ask more questions and probe for details. The Governor, with tired eyes, looked at them before straightening up.
"I admit I have not yet fully recovered. Therefore, I delegate my duties regarding the sessions to my deputy. Please review the 'Fountain of Warm Hearts' project—it will be the beginning of good change and many challenges. The catalyst for our future."
Governor Solomonov Arseni Rodionovich left the National Duma hall. After two weeks, enough red, energy-rich stones were collected to build the "Fountains of Warm Hearts." These devices increased the temperature of roads, homes, and water and could also heal the wounded if necessary. Initially, only a few fountains were built, but the imported gems with powerful magic allowed for enhancing the existing fountains, extending their warm embrace to most buildings, except those on the very outskirts. It was a small victory that attracted the attention of beings lurking in the shadows.
