The clock was ticking, Maja and Jirzí were sitting in the waiting room, made out of sterile tiles and old furniture. Even though the interior was quite relaxing, it created an unnerving gut feeling in Maja.
She was scared about what was with her, she hoped that it was just some simple disease.
*To Maja's horror, she started to cough up blood into her hands. Sight, smell, and viscosity nearly made her sick.
A horrified look spread on Jirzí, his paternal instincts immediately kicking in
"Are you okay Maja!?"
Maja, barely holding back the urge to vomit, shook her head.
Jirzí pulled out an issue from his pocket and wiped the blood off Maja's hands
"It's okay; the doctor will surely help you," he assured, though uncertainty lingered in his own mind. Losing another family member was not an option.*
*After a few minutes of a tense wait the doors of the clinic swung open and the doctor yelled out: * "Nowakowi please come in!"
Jirzí and Maja rose up and walked to the clinic.
"So, what has been bothering you, Maja?" asked the doctor, Dr. Juraj
"I have been quite tired lately, and coughing a lot, even blood...." Dr. Juraj looked a bit nervously at the response.
"Oh okay, I just wanna check. Ima put the stethoscope on your chest alright?"
Maja nodded nervously as Dr. Juraj put the stethoscope on her chest, instructing Maja to take a deep breath.
"Mmm...." the doctor would sit up and pull the stethoscope away, looking at his computer.
"I'm not certain, there might be an issue with your lungs. I recommend an x-rax."
Emotions started to slowly wash over Maja, she was truly nervous.
"Okay" Maja and Jirzí nodded as the doctor gave them a paper and instructions on to where to go
After the x-rax, back in the clinic
Maja have been called in to the clinic, Jirzí and Dr. Juraj already sitting there. Jirzí was looking very sad and tired.
"We have a serious news ms. Maja" said Dr. Juraj fairly quietly
Maja would sit down, keen to hear the results of the x-rax
"We found an abnormal mass in your lungs, and the blood test told us the answer."
Maja would sit down on the chair, all thoughts of what the abnormal mass could be. She sat in a very closed-in position, her body instinctively defengin her.
"You have a.... lung cancer"
Maja would look in denial at Dr. Juraj and then at her dad "What? No....... that can't be right, I never smoked!"
Jirzí nodded "Maja, I'm sorry..... we'll get through this, I swear."
The reality kicked in for Maja, tears started rolling down her eyes as Jirzí hugged her tight. She was devastated.
Mr. Juraj would tell Jirzí of the few options they had to treat the dire situation, but Jirzí knew that they were either too expensive or inaccessible in Lorzepk
Maja would cry until they got home.......
She would lie in her bed for some time.
But then she remembered, she had a book
*She jumped out of her bed and looked beneath it. There was a pile of rubbish and some old books, she took one, written in older Lorzepkan, named "The Wonders of Old Lorzepk".
The book itself sounded a bit like a story, the north regions of Lorzepk, which were inaccessible to the public were a remnant of old Lorzepk. Matriarchal traditions, magic, so-called Magical girls. All that was in there. She knew magic could heal a lot of stuff, but she needed to convince her dad to take her to Old Lorzepk..... And if it wouldn't be real.... she knew she wouldn't make it.
