The Old Admiral with a Fiery Soul

Admiral Gascon Géroux was a tough man. For over a decade, the military administration had been trying to send him into retirement, believing that the Grand Admiralty needed fresh water. But when he heard about their plans, he found new strength within himself and proved that he was still capable. Admiral refused to give up the position he had held with pride for so many years.

At first, he tried to stay active—visiting ships, assisting soldiers, and taking part in war exercises (even if only standing). In his office, he would dramatically lift documents and move them from one table to another, as if that alone could prove his vitality. But his body quickly reminded him of his age. Overexertion took its toll, and after a forced period of rest, he had to admit that he was not as young as he once was.

In the end, he focused on what he did best—strategic work. He decided that no new warship design would be approved without his review. He studied ship plans, analyzed technical details, and—most importantly—made sure that his authority in the matter remained unquestioned. He believed this would keep him in the Admiralty for years to come. But the Grand Duchy of Japuile was patient. Every star, no matter how bright, must eventually fade.

The Journey to Crown Royal

One day, Admiral Géroux received an invitation from Empress Kohl herself, delivered through the Ambassador France. He had been granted the honor of personally "inspecting" the largest war fleet of Crown Royal. He accepted without hesitation, though his health required him to bring a full medical team and his personal aide.

The sea voyage proved more difficult than expected. Seasickness hit him hard- he suffered from nausea, weakness, and even symptoms resembling scurvy. The doctors decided to give him citrus brandy, which, surprisingly, helped. Though still weak, the admiral finally managed to step outside and admire the majestic ships of Crown Royal.

When the time came to meet the Empress, Gascon Géroux made sure to look his best. He wore his finest admiral’s uniform, decorated with all his medals. He stood tall, as if age had no effect on him.

"Thank you, Your Imperial Majesty, for this great honor—to witness the fleet of our friends with my own eyes"
Admiral said with a smile.
"Please do not worry about the size of my escort. They are simply a requirement due to my age."

His posture was perfect, but the doctors behind him exchanged doubtful glances. They knew he shouldn’t be here—but they also knew better than to argue with him.

In the harbour, docked by floating harbours, lined up somewhat neatly, the largest battleshps on Pelia. The current Golden Sea, the Prince of Magadan [ship], and the Korolya. In the distance, a fourth Golden Sea battleship, that being the Czerwone Jagody. But Jagody was late by about a day, so it's a miracle the Polish battleship managed to get here from the Southern Manufactories in a day, even though it was a brand new battleship.

Alongside the four colossal giants, next are the H-42 M class ships. the Tripitz and the Bismark. They had new missile pods strapped on, and the third, Admiral Meckelberg, is an original H-42, equipped instead with onboard mages to cast fireball at unsuspecting enemy ships. Besides them, battlecruisers, as much as 500 destroyers of all kinds, and even submarines. The retired luxury submarine 'Auslander' is not there, but his cousins are, parked by one of the floating harbours.

What should catch Geroux's eyes, are the Braunschweig pre-dreadnoughts. Of course, Braunschweig and Hessen, alongside Alsache. They were converted to run on oil a while ago and were kept around as training vessels. But it should be noted they have been in service for over 200 years by now, and they still look brand new.

Atop all these ships, their sailors. Sitting, looking about. The Crown does not really force its sailors to be presentable, even to foreign eyes, as it is reality. The sea work, the Crown believes, everyone knows what the navy does. So why bother hiding it in ceremonies and marches? There are so many of them, the ones afar look like white canvas draped over their ships. On the docks, to greet the Japuliean admiral, are most of the captains of the ships.
Captains, junior admirals, and some admirals are present, welcoming him.

"I find it nice, someone who appreciates the navy as i do." Emperess Kohl says, as she seems to admire the Golden Sea. Obviously, the most fancily decorated ship in the Crown Navy"
"Escort size is fine. Though it might be a problem when entering the ships themselves. If you would like, we can go board them, via airship."

The airship she refers to, a small craft loaned from the Glowstone Quarrelforce. A 50 meter long motorboat, with magical thrusters embedded within the hull. He sits by the pier, the pilot of said ship snacking on some JFP nearby

Enthusiasts Like Fish in Water

"It’s no problem at all, Your Imperial Majesty! Please, let us embark on our journey through the waters of nostalgia, sea salt, and the life of a wandering mariner."

Admiral Gascon Géroux responded with a nod to the Empress’s proposal. He then proceeded to shake hands with Empress Kohl’s entourage. His smile and practiced poker face concealed the fact that each handshake left his hands numb and aching—Sharj were much stronger than humans. The doctors had previously advised against excessive force when shaking hands, suspecting that the Admiral was once again "pretending to be stronger" than he really was. But for now, they could do nothing about it.

His adjutant, a young blonde woman with copper-colored tips in her hair, stood nearby. Her sharp, energetic green eyes gleamed with alertness. A colonel serving under the Admiral’s fleet, she knew him well—perhaps too well. It pained her to admit that earlier that morning, the Admiral had been so exhausted that he couldn’t even get out of bed without a shot of adrenaline. Unfortunately, the dose she administered was too weak for him to endure a day as demanding as this one.

Empress Kohl and the Admiral began their tour with the oldest iron-clad war machines, relics of history resting in the museum, their decks echoing with the memories of crew members who returned to reminisce. The Admiral was particularly fascinated by the ships' interiors—the engines, the crew quarters, and the commanding bridges. He had few personal preferences, but he had a deep appreciation for the simplicity of the sailors' cabins. Their discussion was like that of two fishermen who had found the perfect spot to cast their lines together.

"I remember my youth, sleeping in bunks like these and hammocks. I'd climb into one with boundless energy and drift off, dreaming of new adventures among the waves. The best sleep came during storms, when the rain drummed against the metal hull..."

Nostalgic, the Admiral decided to try climbing into the hammock as he once had in his younger days. But as he stretched, something in his back gave a sharp, audible crack. With an unreadable expression, Gascon Géroux subtly stepped back and bowed apologetically.

"My sincerest apologies, my youthful enthusiasm got the better of me. Shall we continue the tour?"

The adjutant and the doctors whispered among themselves—they had all clearly heard the sound from the Admiral’s back. He was hiding his pain, unable to accept the reality of aging and how the sea salt had long since worn down his once-youthful body.

"Only an hour left…I hope this museum visit ends quickly "

murmured Catherine Brochard to herself as she adjusted her colonel’s insignia. She could hear her watch ticking softly. Minute by minute, the time passed - until, just as they stepped off the ship, the Admiral collapsed unceremoniously to the ground.

With precise coordination, the medical corps immediately set up an emergency field station and began assessing the unconscious admiral of the Japuilean navy. Empress Kohl noticed that the only person unsurprised by the incident was the Admiral’s adjutant.

"On behalf of the Admiralty and the Grand Duchy of Japuile, I sincerely apologize, Empress Kohl. Admiral Gascon Géroux will be unable to continue his journey through the memories of his youth—age has finally caught up with him. To be frank, I do not expect him to return to complete this tour."

As they spoke, the medical captain reported the incident to the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Japuile in Crown Royal.

Much cheer, as the Admiral shook their hands.

Within the Alsache, Kohl nods, responds to Géroux. She reaches out, as if to warn, but hesitates, and watches the admiral break his back. She looks back to the sharj sailor
"Did i set it up wrong?" asked the sailor sharj"
"Nein. You did well. HE's just... in need of an oil change."
Watching him limp, or run around exploring the Alsace, a bit painful for Kohl and the sailors onboard. The pity they all felt is incredible. Like watching your own grandpa unable to do the things he loved before. And off the deck, and down he goes.

"it's fine." Kohl says to Catherine. "I was planning to take him through the Golden Sea where we already set up disability ramps and wheelchair access for now."
Kohl looked back to her sailors. They all shrug.
"Emperess, maybe give him free rejuvenation, as a treat!" A voice said in the crowd.
"Hmm. I might be able to pull strings and get some care for him. I don't think the Admiralty, or the Duchy of Japuile would mind if i gave him some revitalization treatments."

Kohl mumbles off to herself, before looking back to the Japuliean entourage.
"I do want him to see the whole fleet. I didn't expect him to jump out though. if he wasn't well enough, i had a plan to let him observe from a cafe, conveniently overlooking the harbour with all the boats. But i hesitated as i could not reserve any seats. I regret it..."

For the rest of the day, it seemed half of the cruisers and destroyers were refueled and steamed off. But the battleships remained.
Czerwone Jagody's crew missed the whole scene as they docked by 4 PM, well after Geroux fell. The crew was not given any punishment for being later considering the circumstances, but were commended for being able to arrive on the same day despite delays.

The Last Voyage

Several days had passed since that fateful day in Crown Royal. The Grand Duchy of Japuile expressed its deepest condolences to Empress Kohl, after which she received a letter from...Admiral Gascon Géroux? The letter was enclosed in a blue envelope with an admiral's seal. Upon opening, the letter was not handwritten, but machine-typed, judging by the font.

"May the waves always be in favor of Your Imperial Majesty, Empress Kohl.

I, Admiral Gascon Géroux, who have not lost the motivation or will to lead the fleet of the Grand Duchy of Japuile, must tender my deepest apologies due to the situation at the Museum. I have been deaf to those who meant well for me—therefore, I invite Your Imperial Majesty to join me for my farewell voyage from Limne to the old naval base. I understand the emotions this may stir, but please, Empress Kohl, feel at home on the ship."

Empress Kohl arrived in Limne and was immediately directed to the super battleship Gloire du Levant. The length of the super battleship is 305 meters, with a width of 40 meters. You can feel the spirit of the time on these boards and metal, which has been restored and adapted to modern times, even though its era is passing with Admiral Gascon Géroux. Onboard, there’s a sense of consequence, joy, and a certain kind of ceremony.

Speaking of our sea wolf, Admiral Gascon Géroux sat in a comfortable, large wheelchair—the surface of which was smooth wood, with the Admiral lying on soft cushions embedded in the chair. He wore his uniform, although it had lost some of its color; yet, the Admiral smiled—with gratitude, with apologies, and...with disappointment, that this was how his service had to come to an end.

"Thank you, Empress Kohl, for attending my farewell voyage. These are His Grand Majesty Casamir I of the House of Episcopo and The Honorable Prime Lord Alard Reyrond, who themselves made my last voyage in this Grand Battleship."

He looked from Empress Kohl to the leaders of the Grand Duchy of Japuile, feeling as though someone had given him back his wings and the dignity with which he should depart.

"It is the duty of the government to ensure that our veterans have a worthy rest and life after service, even if this is all we can give—they will be the ones who count in life after military service."

"I agree with His Grand Majesty—yet, we must also look to the future, so that our veterans feel pride in the fact that the military moves forward rather than standing still. They know what needs to be improved, and our duty should be to ensure that their experience and knowledge shape the future."

Said His Grand Ducal Majesty and Alard Reyrond, who stood next to the wheelchair. The wheelchair was being pushed by Colonel Catherine Brochard, who nodded toward Empress Kohl. Along with them on board were about 750 sailors—all those who had served with the Admiral and had the opportunity to come to bid him farewell. The Grand Admiral's cabin had been renovated for his current state.

There was music, food, light alcohol, and plenty of conversation. As the sky darkened and we neared Artane (half an hour from entering the port), all of the ship's guns were fired in a specially prepared fireworks display—18 guns fired simultaneously, creating a beautiful spectacle of fireworks in the sky.

Upon entering the port, Admiral Gascon Géroux was taken to the hospital to continue his observation and treatment, so he could rest in his home and focus on his health and well-being as a veteran.

Along the way, merry spirits. Kohl going out of her nation's borders, for the first time in a while with some new friends. Some parts of her wished it lasted for longer. Along the trip, she made a small letter for Geroux. Blueprints of the ships she intended for him to get on, even a restricted 1580 AR refit variation for the Golden Sea, with images too. It may be careless, but it's a present from her to him. Some stuff has been redacted off, but it's mostly intact. Enough for a 3d model to be made of it.
Why not actual models? Kohl was busy partying and made use of the onboard office printer. The letter's a large document, stamped with Kohl's actual seal. But the wax itself i candle wax, from a candle she nabbed in the kitchen, and the wick of said candle forming the embellishments, with some gold foil over it.

"It is a shame. I did that, i guess. But it should all be for the better. I'm curious who will replace the old man..."

"I suppose..."

She looks around. No prepared car for her to sit in.
"I think i might be lost. I- oh sorry. pardon me-"
Going out of the way of the departing crew, Kohl checks around. At least she had her belongings on her and in the suitcase.
"I guess, i not have a suprise vacation. I wonder what hotel i could stay in..."
Off into the crowd she goes. Like a sore thumb in the crowd but who will know?

As the Gloire du Levant steams away from Korolya, the Golden Sea and Prince of Magadan battleships steam off too, along with most of the other parked ships. Back to regular duties. Czerwone Jagody stays for inspection by Crown Navy officials, mostly about the systems and how they got here so fast.

Off to sea, the Golden Sea got it's block 4 boilers swapped back for it's regular boilers. There won't be an engine issue for the foreseeable future. The CRN Magadan got her B, or C turret restored to the regular twin 508mm guns back from the previous dual ICBM launcher system. Wiard, that one was. The trio of Braunschweig ,Hessen, and Alsache are waiting in port for a new crew of trainees to pick up for coastal exercises.

Kohl had been gone a few days, so her close circle of friends become the Winter Palace Council. Lord Admiral Prince of Magadan is in control of the navy, Hesse Korolya in control of civilian, ect, ect. The companies on the board continue operations as usual. No one made a fuss about Kohl leaving since only her circle of friends knew.

While Kohl was away, some nobles in the provinces near Korolya had to deal with a civil war, due to the nobility's ears falling deaf onto the people. Sharjs riot and protest in Korolya over not being heard. Not great since Kohl is gone. So the Winter Palace says, "May the people's will be made", and did not support either side. The royalists picked up arms, and scrouged up mercenary tank squads and air corps. The people somehow dragged the Crown Army in, two divisions of the Speer shock troops/mechanized warfare were rounded up by a local general and sent in to deal with the unruly king.

Under the burning, scorching sun, shining like a field of diamonds, the Crown Royal's largest solar farm, Soleli-8.
The facility is comprised of 96 giant individual solar concentrator plants, each a staggering 2 to 3 kilometers across, with a tower in the middle. It's made of mostly aluminium, standing out among the dunes, shining, especially the top of it, which seems to contain it's own sun. The towers stand usually between 300 and 350 meters tall, and on the top are long, thick skinned water tanks made of titanium. The towers held in place by wires, magic, and overcompensating engineering, and those 30-meter-long tanks painted black absorb enough heat, to burn the water inside to impossibly high pressures that propel the geared turbines downstairs in the plant below up to speeds beyond 80 RPS out the shaft. Such power only comparable to undersea current farms, equivalent of wind turbines above the water.

Touring the plant today, Heisse Korolya, the regent and the head grand mage, Reindottr Misayev. Both look up towards one of the larger towers.
"Mein eyes... fuck why is it so bright..."
Rein tried looking at one of the towers. Clearly it's still operating.
"The sun, other than being a pain for my old eyes... What use is this plant for anyway? It's a waste of resources."
The plant representative corrects Rein, "It's not. In Soleli-8 we pioneer more advanced solar collection every year. That's Tower 94, having been reconstructed with better heat absorption composites and higher heat resistance."
"So it's like research?" Rein asks, drinking a bottle of TEW. "Is like half of the complex for research? Like that giant parabola?"
"No, most of it is. We generate enough surplus that power bills in most of the nation is an afterthought. Electric bills have effectively become a modern inconvenience rather than a panic with how cheap Soleli-8 and other plants like it have made it to be."

The representative looks at the parabola Reindottr mentioned. "That's a university project from the gals up in the Universitat Korolja. They took an old satellite design and upscaled it. They said it was a 'large radio telescope' but i don't believe it. We put reflectors, concentrator, a turbine below and called it a day. Currently it's able to generate full power over 10 hours of the day, starting from 7 in the morning to 5 in the evening, with how it can focus..."

"I know how.. how just pointing it at the sun works. Some magic is based off that too." Rein grumbles. "Heisse, this is boring. Why are we here anyway?"
"Checking up on this array. It's on Kohl's schedule." Heisse coughs
"On her schedule? I wasn't aware... Is it?"

Rein looks at Heisse's tablet. Right there, it is. A red mark on the calendar.
"It is?"
"It is." Heisse sighs, "It is... And i'm dry as a marinated squid. Do you have water?"
"I drank the bottle. You can have it i guess." Then, Rein giggles a bit, "You do look like a dried up fish. hehe..."

And yet, it's happening again. The keel of the new Golden Sea battleship. This new one is odd, though, as she's wider and has quadruple hull layering, and thinner composite armour rather than the usual 2 meters of cast iron that usually form the main belt. Better turbines, and the engine room seems to be far larger. Rather than six arrays of boilers, for redundancy, it seems those 128 or so boilers were replaced by a bunch of nuclear cores, running on enriched plutonium rods from the sandy South. It seems the engine room is lined with about... a meter of lead. Armour usually reserved for the inside or ammo stowages, doubled for the new core? Makes sense honestly...

At the moment, the hull is only 50% complete, with the core of the ship built first. Going against all traditional shipbuilding methods to test new methods such as automated assembly lines, and many robotic arms rather than cranes to piece it together. And, taking a page from their new Japuliean friends, most of the welding and fixing onto was done by humanoid golems. There are still sharjs, but mostly to check if everything's been installed correctly.

When completed, it will be 460 meters long. 10 more than the Czerwone Jagody, the latest of the original Golden Sea iterations. She will bring to bear newer weapons, such as the eight 508mm K/99 50.8 cm [M] guns. Along the list, is autocannons, missiles, electronic systems. Truly the better battleship compared to a modernized Yamato. For crying out loud it can summon a magic beam!

Anyways, it has kinetic and magical shields, it can run on mana fuel, and the name hasn't been decided yet. Calling it the Kohl, or any leader is off the table, so is naming the ship after admirals or cities.

One admiral put forward, name this special ship after a special girl who got demoted. name it the Mikoyan [after Mikoyan Sukol, the demoted head of army or something]. And there were some more, for example, "Power" [denied for being too vague, or Dreadnought [denied as there's already a ship with said name]
Since the Emperess Kohl is busy destressing from the trip home, Heisse had some say.
She says, "We're going to use this in new wars. Probably works, probably not. Name her after a famed inventor. Give me names and I'll review it."

Someone had the bright idea, to put forward the name "Innovator" Clearly it was denied.
While Heisse and high command argue on about names, Production steams forward. As a temporary name, they named the new ship 'Großadmiral Oskar', named after the cat Oskar who belongs to the korolyan High Command, and the rank is the Großadmiral rank [Lord Admiral]

Along the way, on the 26th of Umbra, a new Lord-Admiral was promoted. An admiral from the Rear [Defense fleet] was promoted as there was a need for someone to take over as the Prince of Magadan admittedly has been a bit busy with a little revolt happening back at her home turf.
Retcons : [Lord-Admiral Prince of Magadan] is now [Großadmiral Prince of Magadan].
[Lord-Admiral Reinhart] is now [Großadmiral Reinhart].

New ship project by the Crown navy, it's the Experimental Battleship 1614 Project.
In the batch includes these three 'super battleships' :

Basic features of the experimental battleships which are derived from the Golden Sea III battleship class:

Großadmiral Otto seems to be equipped with a standard weapons complement, with added electronic warfare and missile systems. Otto is about halfway done, being put together offshore near Mozdok.

Großadmiral Oskar seems to have stealth capabilities, with all weapon systems covered in stealth shrouding. Oskar's external walls are angled between 30 to 60 degrees to bounce off detection systems. The rangefinders, searching equipment, and even the funnel can be pulled inside for added stealth. Oskar has had his keel laid down today.

Großadmiral Meyer seems to be part arsenal ship and part weapons testing platform. Documents show that the forward main turrets are planned to house a single 500mm electrochemical railgun, technology derived from Yulsan, a nearby nation. Meyer hasn't left the blueprints yet...

Completion date for the Otto is estimated on Q4 of this year. Oskar takes more work, and will be finished on Q1 next year due to the stealth technology and the extra moving bits. Meyer may be cancelled.
One must wonder, where is the money for all this coming from then? Easy, it's just the money usually reserved for experiments combined with the entire navy's maintenance funds, which had accumulated over a while. This is just to test some stuff for the sake of progress and innovation. The battleships if proven successful will be reclassified as the Golden Sea IV class battleships, and if not, will remain in active service with their names until they eventually get decommissioned.

For all nearby coastal nations, the prospect of the Crown finding these ships will be a great pain in the ass. Not only will the Crown have the original three Golden Sea superbattleships by 1620 AR, they willl also possess three more ships [As of now called the 'Großadmiral Otto' class experimental battleship]. And that's not counting the H39 modernization plans, the new destroyers and frigates, and so on and so forth. Sure, the Crown will burn through more cash, but they will be more daring in sea fights next time as they have so much more ships to yeet at the enemy.
[An additional 100 ships will join the Crown Navy soon, from small gunboats to the aformentioned superbattleships]

In charge of this new fleet at the moment is Großadmiral Reinhart, the newly-appointed admiral. She's been busy approving nearly 500,000 new sailors to get into these ships when the time comes to test out the new ships. Reinhart remarks that the Oskar might fail hard, as the stealth coating does not like the sea, and that she places most of the superbattleship's project focus on tried and tested improvements, on Großadmiral Otto instead.

Großadmiral Otto by the way features CWIS, missiles, and a new autoloading system for. Taken from the Crown Armee's T72's, the battleship has a supersized first-stage carousel autoloader, with very fast replenishing times. It has 32 shells and the explosive charges are just dispensed into the breech directly via a chain drive, similar to how machine guns operate. In theory, the fire rate is 6 rounds a minute. Far faster than the autoloaders in the Golden Sea III battleships. To be honest, they were designed for redundancy and to be able to be loaded manually by crew. Not to be rapid fired like a lunatic. It's not even guaranteed that some shells can handle the current planned loading system, but it's planned that the Fire Control can direct autoloader speed in case too.

The Prince of Magadan has sent her congratulations to Reinhard, asking the new Großadmiral to manage the navy for her while she deals with the rich people class revolting over worker rights and making chaos back at her home kingdom, the Magadan Empire.

Großadmiral Oskar has a carousel autoloader.

It has two racks where the powder and charge handling rooms at the bottom of the turret. The top rack has 32 shells and the bottom rack has 32 tubes of 4 charges each.
The turret has only catwalks inside it rather than floors but for maintenance only, as most of the space inside are dedicated for the two loading arms for the two 20 inch K/00 50.8cm [M] guns. These arms are ten tons each and have their own rammer for ramming the shells and charges in the breech.

Shell and charge selection happen together, despite being on two seperate racks. It cuts down selection time to 1 second if the shells are next to each other, and 5 seconds at most if the shell is on the other side of the carousel

The selected row [of the carousel] is tilted upwards and rammed into the loading arm that descends. The shell and charge is rammed into the loading arm by rammers in the autoloader. The arm lifts up and aligns with the opened breech. The ramming block drops down and rams the shell into the breech, then the shell and charge tubes lift up, and the ramming block rams the charges into the breech.

The ramming block lifts up, the shell and charge tube drops down. The loading arm drops down and the breech slams shut. The guns fire and recoil.

The other things about the turret

It also has blowout channels for the turret and blast doors between the carousel [first stage ammunition] and the carousel replenisher room, so in case the turret's carousel gets blown to hell, it won't fly out and hit other ships. The turret still has the back overhang like all Crown battleships. It's empty space as of now and might be home to radar targeting systems soon. It's sealed off from the main turret interior, the same way the maintenance access doors and the ammo replenishers are by blast doors and thick walls.

As put by some researchers, in the worst possible setting, it loads at 15 to 16 seconds minimum. At best it loads in 9 to 12 sec. It can potentially fire six rounds a minute, an extreme record for it's caliber size. Potentially even beats out Japuliean and Treporian battleships and will terrorize the entire Golden Sea and the Crown's enemies.
It obviously has drawbacks, and it's just higher power consumption and a higher fail rate under stress. But the fail rate is resolved with magic thankfully.

For the sake of unity of the Golden Sea Commonwealth, this technology may be shared with Azeria, a special member of the Crown Royal's economic union, so both nations can better fend off enemy naval powers by obliterating the enemy fleet with fuckload of bullets.

Sibling Reunion

Emperess Kohl is preparing. A casual fit, just a sweater and long pants to keep warm in this cold evening, overlooking a marble balcony. Armoured cars roll in, and out of the cars, one of Kohl's cousins and his assigned Livgardet detachment.

Out of the middle car? Prince Sako. One of her cousins, clearly. Goofy and a lot younger, being born on 1400 AR. And a few others. Her mother, Emperess Secelles had a lot of siblings, a lot of political marriages. At least Prince Sako did not have to do much, as he has a noble with no land to rule. Most of Kohl's siblings are just doing shinenigans in their principalities and kingdoms.

Down the stairs, Kohl runs. She jumps and hugs her cousin! Such emotion from her is pretty rare to see in public.
"Ack- nice to see you, Kohl..." Sako pats Kohl on the back
"I missed you! Well, not that way. it's getting a bit lonely, Sako."
"Have you tried vapes? I did once and it sucks ass." Sako sighs. "You ought to crack down on all kinds of addictive electronic things..."
"A good idea! You should tell me later though..."
"You can stop hugging me now? It kind of hurts when you squeeze..."

Kohl lets go, and sighs. "Any advice on love?"
Sako signs again, while stretching, "Not right now, but i am flirting with some ladies, like your type. No advice right now..."
Kohl sighs like her sibling, but out of the cold chill. Sako turns to the door.
"it's cold out here. Inside and some tea, and probably me playing some strategy games with you and some generals. Like old times, right?"
"Yeah" Kohl says, walking up the marble stairs. "I got some warn cocoa ready."
Both walked up the steps, and into the castle, followed by the guards and so and so...

Sibling Advice

Over the warm fireplace, the antique royal fireplace, A warm fire, just like back then. When Mother Secelles and Father Marie used to tell stories. Now only they remain of the large over-50 or so family that used to huddle here after trips outside.
"Remember, when you almost fell in the mud that one time" Kohl says, warming up to the fire
"I forgot. The big one i mistook for a lake? Or the small one?" Sako cheerily replies.
"Uhh... I'm not sure either, ehe..."
Kohl scratches the back of her head while writing something. A decree to make nicotine products suffer through stringent laws. Such things such as ecigs shall be past once she signs it. She puts aside the tablet and lays on the carpeted floor
"I don't know. Love is hard to find. Why does no one love me truly?"
Sako leans against some pillows, and sips some tea from a nearby mug.
"Love is not some buyable thing. Not something you can influence. But you can control it from how you present yourself. You barely do it, and you do so usually in places where no one is looking for love. Wait by the beach, honestly, and see who you bag. Or somewhere like a park. You may bump into love there. Not the noble parties though. They marry for power. Not good for any relationship."
"So what? Wander aimlessly in public?" Kohl asks
"Better chance than working in the cafe." Sako responds as he stretches and pulls his shark tail aside. "But honestly, just let Fate do something."
"I would like to do it soon then..." Kohll sighs again "I can't stand to go to another regeneration procedure, it's so.. not great..."
"Existential crisis?"
"Yeah. It gives me that and another midlife crisis. Near-immortal life sucks when you are all alone..."
Sako sits up. "Maybe, but it's a bad idea. Clone yourself and see what happens, honestly."

Departing for Herwa

Clearly, the Golden Sea battleship was detached from the Home Fleet and assigned to a new one just for the occasion. As a precaution though, crew will be battle-ready. The new fleet includes the Golden Sea, the premier flagship of the Crown Royal Navy. Accompanying it on either side are the resupply ships, newly-made based off the 'Great Turtle' cllass of heavy lift ships. The battleship is surrounded by a screen of 16 destroyers and 3 smaller battleships, the Tripitz , the the Bismark, and the newly-renovated Admiral Meckelberg. But one might ask why so drastic? The trip to Japulie didn't need this much protection, a citizen may say. Well, the trip to Japulie was a last-minute decision and not a properly planned excursion. This is a properly planned excursion for the Emperess of the Crown Royal, Emperess Kohl. Out of grandeur or out of safety, it seems like either.

With the new engines and reapplied runes, the ship ought to be able to reach Herwa in... about a week, give or take. The fleet sits in port refueling on marine oil. The Golden Sea on the other hand is taking in some... oh no it's petroleum it's gasoline why is the ship getting fueled up on two different fuels????
Apparently, the Golden Sea had another retrofit, and all boilers were reverted to marine oil fired. But due to some... vital pumps imploding, the decision was to use petroleum fuel for the boiler rows that imploded back then for now, and to continue repairs in Herwa.

Anyways, ja? Oh, right, while the ships are refueling, restocking, rearming and so and so, Emperess Kohl has to find someone to rule for her. Heisse is the safe option, but something more interesting would be nice. So Kohl turns to her cousin, Prince Sako. The Prince of the Secelles, one of few with no land to rule, at the moment, enjoying life. On a note, he's a male shark, something rarely seen in the Crown. Humans are more common than fishes like him. Since Sako suggested to Kohl some new laws, Kohl thought it would be a good idea to see what he does while she's gone. Of course, Heisse will have the same amount of control that Sako has over the Crown, just to keep him in check.
About Kohl? She's prepping. Preparing some speeches, notes, and looking at the preparations. All should be well, it fall goes to plan...

The plan

As detailed by Emperess Kohl, a week-long voyage to Herwa. Then, a stay of two weeks which could be extended. After that is the return voyage. Due to the generals asking Kohl to bring along air superiority, two helicopter carriers with the Korolyan Marine Infantry will be added to the exploration fleet, and an additional resupply ship. Kohl will go to Herwa, meet with the Herwans, meet the leader of the IMTU and the leader of Herwa, go enjoy the local culture, and sail back.

All good, should be. Nothing could possibly ruin the plan...
As for the Herwans, they were relayed the plan, along with a notice that says Kohl will depart on the 27th.

Sako explosions

By the balcony, gazing down upon the ships and the Korolyan bay area, Sako sipping a carton of chocolate milk. The night winds make his hair blow aside, and annoyingly into his eyes.
"I do wish, i hope that this wind is over soon. I can't fucki-"
A gust of wind blows, Sako watches as his milk carton is flung into the stormy skies above
"Aw come on. I just opened that..."

Walking into the guest room, his cousin Emperess Kohl wearing her full uniform. She has a letter.
"Hey, Sako. I want you to have a read."
Sako walks into the room, and shuts the glass doors, and pulling the curtains in.
"Fuc.... yeah, what is it sis?"
"So, i'd like you to rule for a bit while i'm gone. You won't be alone though, i got my bestie to do it too."
"M-me? Power? Alrighty... If you say so i guess..."
Sako grabs the letter from Kohl's hand. It's stamped by Kohl's royal seal, so it's real
"Well shi... i guess i got the crown now. Do i gotta make a speech?"
"Nah fuck it. It's only a month. No one will notice, as long as... you comb your hair..."
"Kohl! My hair is just messy like this! I can't comb it straaiigghhhttt...."

Sako sighs, and plops onto the bean bag chair
"Well, i guess i can come out as myself?"
"Yeah, just no nightclubs, no smoking, no nothing. I maintained a good image and i don't want my work gone in a month alright?"
"Alright then... alright... But seriously, why me?"
"I'm bored." Kohl shrugs, "You got good ideas too, so yeah."

Sako seems to flatten onto the beanie
"Something wrong?" Kohl asks, a bit worried as he's usually jovial.
"The winds took away my choccy and now i get more work. Is this night really that unlucky?"
"It's not that bad. You just do as much as you can ok?"
"I will, Kohl... Can i buy stuff on your royal card later though?"
"Nah." Kohl smirks, pulling her cousin up. "I'm taking it with me. Also, I'm going to go announce my trip, so do you wish to see it?"
"Yeah, I'll just sit in the audience chair though."
"Yay! And out you go!"
"H-hey! Let go silly! I'm still in my casual fit!"

Le speech

As usual, a press release near midnight. Kohl is recorded by Channel One News and a lot of other local and international cameras.
Up the podium she goes.
"Ahem. I'll be going to Herwa for a month. So, no silly things. As usual, Heisse will be this session's assigned Regent until i reenter Korolyan waters."
"Now that i announced the thing, anyone want to ask some questions?"
Jokingly, the CEO of TEW decided to raise her hand and ask "How will this affect water prices?"
"Well, not much. Should be on a slight rise due to demand though."
A reporter from the back, from a news blog asks, "Will the Crown conquer a foreign region while on the trip?"
"No, no." Kohl sighs. "I didn't bring the Army, so no."
Sako raises her hand. Kohl stares at him.
"I'm just stretching my arms." Sako declared.
"Mind doing it to the side next time? Sheesh." Kohl shakes her head. "Anyways, one more till I go do a power nap, so what is it?"
At last, it's Iveno from Channel One. "I heard rumors of another regent other than Heisse. Mind elaborating on that?"
Kohl yawns, and props herself up, "Until it's announced, no. Just take the rumors with a giant salt pile."
"Alright, off to bed. See you lot tomorrow."

Kohl walks out of the announcement room, Sako turns to Iveno.
"I remember my other siblings have long and complicated announcements. How is she so nonchalant?"
"When you do that shit for 600 years, it gets boring fast. At least that's what she told the staff for why she does that."
Sako scratches his head, "Surely she could like... read some paper?"
Iveno shrugs, "She could, but it's a good thing too. Civics classes are easy when she shows up in the book."
"Good point. How easy is it though?"
"Just use logic." Iveno smiled, "Kohl is easy to follow along, so using logic we aced the exams. Even the government one for adults."
"Damm."
"Well, she pulled you in. Are you like, her brother or something?" Iveno asks
"Unfortunately, no. I'm her cousin. But practically, she's over twice as old as me. Cousins because our mothers were sisters, and there's just a lot of fish in that barrel."
"Well, good to know. How come Kohl chose you?"
"Simple. I'm one of the closest to her. Or her to me. I swear i have a photo of her holding me when i was a baby, it made me trip balls when i saw that..."
