Outside Opinion: Theria Inc. Locks Up After Disappointing Emigration Rates
While tuning your radio, you come upon a relatively new station. Over the thin layer of static, you can hear a couple of young, expressive men having a serious, in-depth discussion about a recent policy of Theria Inc. They frequently talk over each other, before one apologizes to other and lets them speak. While speaking, the men talk at a rather sluggish speed and cough at random times throughout the podcast, indicative of the use of substances.
Person 1: ...Yeah, like, it's totally not cool man. Those capitalist pigs are squeezing every ounce of life and joy out of their "citizens". Then, once the people finally start realizing their worth and leaving for better lives, like, Theria just closes everything up. Now those people are trapped there in the thick smog of industrial machines, working jobs I couldn't fathom in my worst nightmares for pennies.
Person 2: I totally agree, dude. It's like, if you just treated your people better in the first place, maybe they would actually want to stay. But they treat them so terrible. I knew a guy who lived there for a couple of years, and he absolutely hated it, as you can imagine. Like, he just got the crap worked out of him; 10 hours a day, 6 days a week, just to afford one room in an apartment of four. Not even to mention all the crappy work conditions he faced there. Like, the stories he told me were so wild. One time, he told me about a manager who would dock fifty percent of a worker's paycheck for the month just for calling in for a sick day. A lot of managers will also just dock payments if they don't like an employee, or the employee isn't completely efficient. They would never tell you when they did it either.
Person 1: That's just such a bad thing to do.
Person 2: I know, right? Another time, he saw one of his managers take in a homeless guy from the street outside and put him straight on fry duty with no training, no supervision, nothing, not even a bath or hand washing. Now mind you, this is, like, a popular restaurant in Theria, and these fries are going out to thousands of customers a day. Now, thousands of customers are getting contaminated ass fries and they don't even know the fries are being handled by a guy straight off of the street. Not to mention, he is so plastered he isn't even noticing when the timers are beeping at him and the fries are getting all burnt or coming out frozen. I don't know why, maybe he was thinking the oil was too hot and it was burning the fries, but he decided to take a bucket of ice and dump it into the grease to cool it down. The hot grease just like exploded all over him and completely covered him in burns! He had to walk half a mile covered in burns just to get to the emergency room and get taken care of. After all is said and done, they never paid him for his time, never compensated him, and never reached out to him again.
Person 1: That is absolutely insane. That is exactly why these corporations can not be trusted with this kind of power, man. They take any inch they're given and run off with a mile. They're like these insane sadistic machines that just want more profit, more profit. Forget what's good for the sake of society, burn it all to the ground for profit! With antitrust laws, we can at least know that companies will kind of keep each other in check. But, like, with Theria, there is no hope. There is no government that's just going to step in and make them stop doing these ridiculous things to their people. So like, being able to leave was the only hope left for these people to find better lives, and now that's been stripped from them.
Person 2: Exactly, man. The only...
Person 1: Also, I just... sorry, go ahead.
Person 2: The only hope the people of Theria have now is themselves. Theria won't change; it'll probably just get worse over time. But, like, the people are the real backbone in the end. They are the customers, workers, and taxpayers combined. Without them paying and working for Theria, it would eventually just crumble into pieces on the ground. But, like, they have to have that willpower and confidence to fight for themselves and stop feeding the pigs. The only issue is, they rely on Theria to provide pretty much every good and service they need. How long would the people be able to hold out without them?
Person 1: That's the ultimate... static ...these people... static
After the static continues, you figure the station went out of range and switch to another channel.
