Excerpt from A Sunsetter's Guide to Clathermont, 3rd Edition (2023), by Haermephilus B.
In the midst of the sunkissed coasts of Clathermont lies the vibrant and beautiful city of Pôrt Ambre; a city which, despite being the jewel of the Clathermontisse Kingdom, is not it's capital. It consitutes Clathermont's main trading port, and fittingly overlooks the strait between Clathermont's Island (Eîle dei Sol) and Nova Solarius' own, taking advantage of the natural corridor that forms between them. Given it's relevance, one would think that it would be placed under direct control of the Duchess of Amber, and one would be correct. Given it's strategic significance to trade, it was placed under direct control of the Duchess and her Sun-blinded Order. This helped prevent conflicts between multiple Counts (Particularly, the Count of Cloth, the Count of Spice, and the Countess of Ores at the time) from escalating further than it had after a series of assasination attempts between each of them that resulted in the infamous Market Riots of 1876. Ever since, Pôrt Ambre has been directly policed by the aforementioned religious order, which ensures the goods of all Counts and Marquises flows freely through the port. It was deemed that the Count of Irons had too much vested interest in the sales of weapon in the conflict, and him and the Army of the Solar Flare were determined to be unfit to serve as arbiters in the city. It also led to the summary execution of a number of Marquises via Solar Death Ray for instigating the conflict.
Pôrt Ambre stands, then, as an incredibly wealthy city. Multiple Counts and Marquises have Winter Manors there (not that the weather in Clathermont ever requires to move somewhere less cold) and the Duchess of Ambers herself has been said to vacation at the Coral Palace, the city's most lavish hotel. She found the service so charming, only a limited number of servants were blinded. The weather is temperate, with only minor breezes coming from the east in the winter. If visited, some points of interest are the aforementioned Coral Palace, the Blue Whale Theater, which regularly sees performances from singer Mme. Adéle Eilesfille. The Raie Theater is also a great stop if you have a couple Duchads to spend. For history buffs, the Pount dei Marquis, where the 3rd Battle of Port Ambre took place still stands, a somber reminder of The Anarchy. Finally, there is of course the Hauiseil Dei Safeîr, the Zaphire Temple, for all of those who should wish to pay their respects to the Solar Lord and her Sun-touched Majesty.
Crime in Port Ambre is nearly non existent, mainly because of draconian punishments for even petty crime. The author will abstain from going into detail, but, suffice to say, there was a number of handless individuals walking Port Ambre in olden times. The Sun-Blinded priests are effective, if ruthless, and unlike members of the Gendarmerie, not easily bribed or corruptible. It is ill-advised to even try to do so.
Other than that, enjoy the port. Given it's status as a trade hub, it is mostly friendly even to outsiders (called Couseils, or "Sun-Stters" by locals) but don't be surprisded if some people stare with curiosity if you come from a continent other than Ilus. Port Ambre has a lot to see, so long as you watch your step.
